Check-GO Ball Balancer:

Picture this:

Your competitor's ball lies just outside yours, six feet from the hole, late in a tied match. You know that since he's outside of you, he putts first (advantage: you!). While you're careful not to stand directly behind his line, you still manage to catch a peek at his ball rolling toward the dead center of the cup. But as it loses speed approaching the hole, it breaks left just enough to lip out. He grumbles and taps in for par.

Armed with that bit of knowledge, you know what you have to do. You aim your putt just inside the right edge and let it go. The speed is perfect. The ball approaches the right side of the hole and at the last moment... it veers further right! "It must have hit something," you mutter to yourself in disbelief as you make your come-backer for the tie.

But did it hit something? Or was one (or both) of your balls out of balance?

Dave Pelz convinced me that most balls sold today are out of balance!

Most are probably only slightly off-center, but even a little bit can be too much. Even if a ball isn't far enough off to cause you to miss a short putt, just the uncertainty alone can be enough to cause you to lose confidence in your stroke.

Over the years, I've managed to develop sufficient doubt in my mind that I decided to purchase a ball balancer. This little device allows you to identify the imperfection and mark your ball so that it always flies and rolls on a true line.

Perhaps it's all in my head, but I swear that I'm a more confident putter and more consistent striker of the ball since I began doing it. If my ball rolls off line, it's either because I made a bad read, or something on the green's surface caused it to miss.

I'll never play another ball which hasn't been balanced!
